The Horror at Brora!

Scotland sport fans had a bad week. After watching their national football team lose to Germany 5-1 in the group stage of the Euros, Scotland supporters were gutted to see their Quaich squad relinquish its sizeable lead to the U.S.A. on the last day of competition at Brora Golf Club. The resulting 10 -10 tie, which is the closest competition in Quaich history, meant the Yanks would retain the Quaich for another two years. “Ah cannae believe it,” said one Scotland supporter, lamenting his team’s collapse. “They didnae even show up!” After the first three rounds of play, the Scots had built a commanding 8.5 to 3.5 lead, and the Americans were exhausted and beaten down. In the Moray Golf Club dining room after the third round of two-man team formats, the Americans bravely talked of a final day comeback. “You’d need to win six and a half points,” scoffed Ronald “Wee Ronnie” Denholm. “Nae happenin’.” Indeed, in the history of the Quaich, the team leading going into the singles competition a...

The Quaich GOAT's

Image
Who are the true greats in the history of the Quaich?  Based on winning percentage, it is Bret Baier and Sam Forrest. Sadly, Quaich fans will not see either of these legends on the links around Inverness next month as they both declined invitations to replace the injured Chris "Guvna" Hughes due to "prior commitments". However, Quaich fans will get to see Brian "Goombay" Farley and Ronald "NSW Ronnie" Denholm resume their battle for supremacy in most all-time points. NSW Ronnie leads Goombay by 1/2 point going into Quaich 2024. Fans are hoping to see a first round match-up of these two titans at Tain on June 16.

Quaich Shocker! Guvna Injury Comeback

His physical therapy regimen is especially intense, yet Guvna has not missed a single session with his therapist. “I have never seen someone so motivated,” said Maddie Knutson, age 31, Guvna’s physical therapist. “Chris has been coming in daily for assisted hamstring isometrics and glute compression treatments.”  Guvna’s teammates are guarded about his return to play.   “Guvna’s being f**king selfish and not thinking about the team,” said one longtime Team USA member who asked to remain anonymous.  “There is no f**king way he plays to his 8.5 handicap on one leg.” “If he’s not 100%,” said another un...
